The mindset shifts I am about to reveal are essential for building a solid digital marketing foundation.
1. Your Income Is A Direct By-Product Of The Value You Provide To The Market
The quickest way to create income, and increase it, is to learn, do, teach.
- Learn about your product.
- Use it.
- Teach others about it from your personal experience.
2. Online Marketing Is Not An Instant Gratification Type Of Business
80% of your results will come from 20% of your campaigns. What this means is you will have to ensure you put in consistent action every day. You’ll need to learn to keep up that consistency during times when it seems like you are not getting the results you desire.
You must learn how to track your campaigns before you start advertising so that you can see which ones are working and which ones are not. To do this you need to get comfortable being uncomfortable. By this I mean you need to be able to move past any uncomfortable feeling of uncertainty when it comes to putting yourself and your ads out there.
You need to be able to experiment with different campaigns in order to find the right one that works for you. Some of your marketing pieces will convert, and some of your marketing pieces will not convert. Your tracking is what will show you this information. You can then work on optimizing the ones that work and deleting the ones that do not.
The marketing game is very much a case of learn by doing. You can do all the study in the world before constructing your campaigns and placing your ads, but the only way you will truly learn what works for you is by getting in there and getting your hands dirty. There’s no other way around it. It is only by placing ads that you can then focus on the data your ads receive. Analysing the data is what will enable you to determine what’s working and what’s not, which brings me to the last mindset shift…
3. Your Results Will Be Determined By Your Ability To Focus, Implement, And Optimize.
The determining factor behind whether or not you see results with a particular marketing strategy is your ability to focus on that particular strategy. It’s not recommended to use any more than two strategies at a time with one of them being content marketing (eg blogging).
Content marketing is the bee’s knees when it comes to creating a long-term sustainable business. Content marketing builds authority and value, and, it allows you to attract customers who feel as though they know, like, and trust you.
Then it comes down to implementing the marketing strategy you choose. Without putting your marketing strategy into use, you will never truly understand how to make it successful. It will be a case of failing forward. Once again, this is why it’s so important to have appropriate tracking for your campaigns. You need to be able to see the ads that are “failing” within your marketing strategy, see the ads that are providing good results, eliminate the “failing ads, and then work on optimizing the ads that are showing good potential to make them perform even better.
To make it in the game of online marketing it is essential you build a strong foundation. To do this it is important to gain an understanding that:
- Your income will be determined by the amount of value you can give to your market.
- Online marketing is no “Las Vegas”. There is no such thing as instant gratification. It’s a case of trial and error until you get it right.
- To get it right requires being able to focus on one or two strategies at a time, take action with the strategies you choose, and then optimize what’s working to make it work even better.
